Fourth graders work with bigger numbers. Long multiplication and division, equivalent fractions, beginning decimals, area and perimeter with mixed units, and multi-step word problems that take three or four lines of work all belong on the table.

Reading lengthens too: a page of text with six to eight comprehension questions, plus paragraph-writing prompts that ask for three or four sentences. Standard 9×9 sudoku and longer logic grids hold this age's attention for a real twenty minutes.
