How to use this name tracer

  1. Type the name you want to trace into the box above.
  2. Pick a letter style: outline letters teach careful pencil control, while faded letters are easier for the youngest learners.
  3. Adjust letter size for the child’s age — bigger for early Pre-K, smaller as they grow.
  4. Click Print worksheet (or press Ctrl/Cmd + P). Headers and controls won’t print — only the practice rows will.

Tips for early writers

  • Start with the child’s first name only. Adding a last name too early can feel overwhelming for a 3- or 4-year-old.
  • Use a fat triangular pencil or short crayon. Tiny hands grip short writing tools more naturally than long ones.
  • Trace once with a finger before picking up the pencil. It builds the muscle memory of the letter shape first.
  • Keep practice short. Five minutes a day beats one long session a week.
