How to use this generator
- Pick an operation — addition, subtraction, or a mix of both on the same page.
- Choose the number range that fits your child: 0–10 for Pre-K, 0–20 for Kindergarten and 1st grade, 0–100 for 2nd grade.
- Pick a layout: stacked (vertical, with a line under each problem) is best for early writers; horizontal (5 + 3 = ___) is better once kids can write digits cleanly.
- Click New problems to shuffle, then Print worksheet (or press Ctrl/Cmd + P). Toggle the answer key on if you want a second page with the solutions.
Picking the right range
- Pre-K (ages 3–4): single-digit addition only, sums to 10. Use the stacked layout and large problem size — kids this age write big.
- Kindergarten (5–6): sums and differences to 20, no regrouping. Mix in subtraction once addition feels comfortable.
- 1st grade (6–7): sums to 20, subtraction with no negatives. Try the mixed mode so kids have to read each problem and pick the right operation.
- 2nd grade (7–8): 0–100 with regrouping. Stick to the stacked layout — it’s how kids learn to carry and borrow on paper.
Tips for at-home practice
- Five minutes a day beats a 30-minute Sunday session. Print a fresh sheet each morning and let the child pick the operation.
- Keep the answer key for yourself — let the child finish first and then check together. The check is half the learning.
- If they stall on a problem, walk through it out loud rather than just giving the answer. Hearing the steps cements the method.
